Summer 2016 is that of Diagono Scuba, attired in resolutely on-trend deep blue. Sophisticated, opulent and modern, it flaunts its heritage with the boldness of The gaze slides across it and, in a fraction of a second, the city gives way to visions of a shoreline. Hectic urban reality fades into the background, replaced happy seaside memories and desires to explore ocean depths. Few timepieces are endowed with such strong evocative powers as Diagono Scuba, the ultimate Bulgari sports watch.
The two new interpretations of this benchmark watch are equipped with the Solotempo self-winding Manufacture BVL 191 calibre. They also feature all the indispensable attributes of a diver’s watch: water resistance to 300 metres, a unidirectional ratcheted bezel serving to measure dive and decompression times, as well as pleasingly sized hour-markers gracing the ocean blue dial. Both are fitted with a steel case and come with either a blue rubber strap or a steel-link bracelet.
Performance naturally plays a central role and it is specifically because it successfully rises to this challenge that Diagono Scuba continues to appeal to devotees of aquatic pleasures and above all to aesthetes.
For smart daily-business or evening wear, whether its owner is astride a motorbike or in the metro, it adopts the modern, sophisticated, speedy and self-confident codes of today’s urban lifestyle. The sleek Diagono Scuba blends in perfectly with a variety of formal professional or social settings, although its favourite playground – like that of its owner – is definitely water.
From Nantucket to Capri, from Portofino to Cape Cod or the far-off shores of the Caribbean, Diagono Scuba has established itself in high society as the connoisseur’s watch. Not just another technical instrument and definitely not a mere branded fashion accessory, Diagono Scuba finds its place on the wrist of people who are sure of their tastes and of their choices, and have nothing to prove.
A dive back to the past
In the summer of 1994, Bulgari introduced a new model named Diagono Scuba. This watch instantly rewrote the standards for casual chic watches. While naturally at ease in a nautical setting, it was also supremely at home on a lively terrace in Porto Cervo.
The model - soon affectionately known as “the Scuba” - became the symbol of an epicurean lifestyle that the watch continues to embody more than 20 years later through two new 2016 models featuring a colour that suits it perfectly: blue.
Contemporary, urban, adventurous: a sports watch does not have to skimp on style to prove its efficiency, since Diagono Scuba is more than just a straightforward diver’s watch complete with a raft of water-resistance patents. It is above all the epitome of an elegant watch, imbued with a distinctively Italian aura of contemporary refinement, even when clothed in diving gear.
The Scuba adventure began in 1994, when Bulgari launched a diver’s version of its Diagono sports watch. Representing much more than merely an alternative to the prestigious watches with an underwater vocation of the period, Diagono Scuba rapidly asserted itself among clients weary of the other diver’s watches that were becoming somewhat commonplace.
In the prestigious spheres of the international nautical world, Diagono Scuba – available in gold or steel and fitted with the astonishing and highly specific metal bracelet or a rubber strap – easily found a place for itself on the decks of racing sailboats or yachts on pleasure cruises. It also offered a significant advantage stemming from its elegant design, since there was no need to change watch for cocktails or dinner. It adapted seamlessly to all occasions, naturally under water but also above and beyond strictly sporting contexts.
